Multi-Year Engagement Programs

In a cohort model, multi-year programs engage students in two consecutive years of targeted activities that include Saturday courses, immersive experiences, and summer courses.

Talent Tours & Bridge Program

Introduces youth to available career paths in STEM fields. High schoolers visit professional STEM conferences and take part in college tours.

Fall Showcase

Fall Showcase is an annual event held at the end of the fall semester. Students have the opportunity to present the projects they’ve been working on in their classes, while also exploring STEM activities and opportunities. Vendors and sponsors from various companies, including Ford Motor Company, University of Michigan Dearborn, and the Detroit Zoo, participate in the event as well.

Real McCoy Awards

Named after famed inventor and Detroiter Elijah McCoy, this annual event honors corporate and community professionals plus educational leaders and youth who have demonstrated excellence in STEM throughout the year. Presented by DTE Energy, Real McCoy Awardees are nominated by teachers and leaders in the Southeast Michigan STEM community. Junior (youth) awardees have demonstrated innovation in STEM projects and courses.

STEM Day

STEM Day is an annual large-scale event where thousands of middle school students from 20+ area schools attend a day of interactive panels and hands-on workshops. Sessions are led by local and national STEM corporate volunteers who create content aligned with their company’s area of expertise. Students receive swag bags, snacks, and the opportunity to meet face-to-face with STEM professionals.

Ask the Experts

DAPCEP students and parents ask STEM professionals about their career experiences.This initiative is designed to introduce students and parents to the realities of various corporate cultures. STEM professionals illustrate their STEM journeys and show how their offerings and services are present in daily lives.

Steps to Success

Engages 11th and 12th grade students in a series of single-focus STEM courses, internships, and mentoring experiences over 18 months. Ensure students gain the aptitude needed to pursue successful STEM education pathways after graduation. Helps prepare the students to join STEM employer talent pools and ultimately find fulfilling careers at leading STEM companies.

African American and Women Leaders in STEM Series

This series introduces DAPCEP students to executive leaders at area STEM corporations and businesses in a virtual panel. Leaders field questions from the students, share stories of their STEM career pathways and showcase their company’s efforts to achieve diversity, equity and inclusion.

Senior Celebration

Upon graduation, DAPCEP staff recognizes each year’s graduating class. In 2020 and 2021, DAPCEP staff safely celebrated outgoing seniors via a summer roadshow.
