Frequently Asked Questions

Is DAPCEP a school?
No. We are a nonprofit organization. Our administrative office is located in Detroit, but all of our programs take place at various locations across southeast Michigan. These locations include university campuses, corporations, laboratories, museums, churches, and other community centers.

Does my student attend DAPCEP during the school day?
Only if your school has DAPCEP available as an elective. Currently, select Detroit Public Schools Community District offer DAPCEP during the day. Students who attend this class work on projects throughout the year in preparation for the Science and Engineering Fair of Metropolitan Detroit. Ask your child’s principal about offering DAPCEP!

Does DAPCEP do school visits?
Yes! We have an awesome team of volunteers–most of them DAPCEP alumni–who make up the STEM Squad. The STEM Squad hosts pop-up workshops at schools and community locations. Find out more at www.dapcep.org/stemsquad

What grade does DAPCEP start?
Pre-Kindergarten! Students may enter DAPCEP at any grade from Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12.

Does my child have to live in Detroit?
No. Students from all over the tri-county area (and beyond!) are welcome to attend.

Does my child have to attend Detroit Public Schools?
No. Students from any and every school system – public, private, charter, home, etc. – are welcome to attend.

What are the requirements for admission?
Simply a completed online registration form!  Register here: dapcep.asapconnected.com

Is admission guaranteed?
To the DAPCEP program, yes, but to a particular module, not necessarily. Classroom spaces are limited, so if a particular module (course/program) is full, then we will contact you to suggest an alternative module. We will do everything we can to ensure you are able to participate!

Can my child apply even if he/she does not receive letter grades?
We formerly required transcripts and report cards, but with our new registration system, we no longer need this information. All students are welcome to apply.

Will I receive a refund of the application fee if my child is not accepted?
No. The application fee is non-refundable. However, we will apply the fee to the next semester, should you choose to apply again.

How do I apply?
Everything can be completed online though our student portal at dapcep.asapconnected.com (no ‘www’ in front of dapcep).

I have more than one child applying. Can I use the same username and password for them?
Yes! Our new system allows Family Accounts. You may register for all your children at one time.

May I mail, email, or fax the application to the DAPCEP office?
No. The application must be completed online. However, if you need other options or assistance, please call us at 313-831-3050.
